Voltron, the live action film that has been in development for several years, is finally starting to take form.
Three months after the producers said the movie project was not shelved, JoBlo reports that “A-level” screenwriters Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer – they wrote the 2011 Conan movie and are currently working on the movie adaptations of Dr. Strange and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, which will be released in 2012 and 2013, respectively – were hired for Voltron.
Aside from that, another proof that the project is progressing, JoBlo has been exclusively provided with three pieces of concept art from the film.
There is no official plot yet, but it would be “a post-apocalyptic tale set in New York City and Mexico, where five survivors of an alien attack band together and end up piloting the five lion-shaped robots that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron that helps battle Earth's invaders.” As for its director, there is still no report as to whether Max Makowski (One Last Dance, 2005) will still helm the project.
The movie has been in development since 2004, even before Michael Bay’s Transformers hit the big screens. It was first set up at New Regency with 20th Century Fox, producer Mark Gordon and screenwriter Justin Marks. It was passed on to Relativity Media. Now, the Voltron movie’s rights are with Atlas Entertainment, and Richard Suckle and Ted Koplar are leading the production.
The Voltron movie is planned to be released by Summer 2013.
